June Taco, Margarita and featured charity gets ready for summer

Enjoy June’s summer flavors at Puesto

Puesto Taco of the Month for June 2017 is Milanesa

Chicken Milanesa is Puesto’s Taco of the Month during June 2017.

Chicken Milanesa is the Taco of the Month during June

Chef Katy Smith wants to make your mouth happy. She’s doing it again with June’s Taco of the Month.

She pounds chicken breast, and batters it with panko breadcrumbs before cooking to perfection. A slick of black bean purée is laid down on our signature blue corn tortilla, and it is topped with pickled jalapeño-cabbage slaw, salsa quemada, and avocado.

Milanesa, which can be made with any kind of meat, is a classic Mexican dish. The breaded meat is generally served on a torta (sandwich). Chef Katy took chicken and all of the classic Milanesa torta ingredients and put them in one of our handmade, organic tortillas. It’s only here for 30 days. Be sure to grab one before June ends.

Tequila Cherry Limeaid Margarita of the Month June 2017

Tequila Cherry Limeaid is Puesto’s Margarita of the Month during the month of June 2017.

Tequila Cherry Limeade for your summer drinking pleasure

This margarita is sweet, tart, and refreshing. It’s made from the juice of tart summer cherries, fresh lime, and 100% blue agave reposado tequila.

June means summer is officially here, and the perfect summer drive-thru beverage should probably have tequila. It doesn’t come with tater tots, but everything’s better with tacos. The tart cherry juice is organic, the lime juice is fresh, and the margarita is a perfect match for the Pollo Milanesa Taco.

Alzheimer’s Association

Alzheimer's AssociationJune is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and Puesto is getting involved to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. We have named the Alzheimer’s Association as our Frozen Horchata For A Cause beneficiary for the entire month.

Everyone who has a brain is at risk to develop Alzheimer’s, a disease that is often misunderstood. Alzheimer’s is fatal. It kills more than breast and prostate cancer combined. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease without any cure. Alzheimer’s is more than memory loss; it appears through a variety of signs and symptoms.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Alzheimer’s Association works on a global, national, and local level to provide care and support. They connect people via online message communities, staffed 24/7 helpline at 800-272-3900, and face-to-face support groups.

The Alzheimer’s Association is committed to accelerating the global progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately a cure. They have invested over $385 million to more than 2,500 scientific investigations in the past 35 years via their peer-reviewed research grant program. Their first of its kind database, GAAIN, the Global Alzheimer’s Association International Network brings researchers together worldwide to advance scientific data sharing.

The Alzheimer’s Association offers many fundraising opportunities. The Longest Day® coincides with the Summer Solstice on June 21st, and allows individual organizers to raise money by doing what they love the most. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s® happens nationwide on different dates. This year’s local walks are September 9, 2017 in San Diego, and September 30, 2017 in Irvine.
